This fully illustrated course covers the practice of archaeology in Ireland. It acts both as a complement to the Open Learning at Queen’s ‘Archaeology of Ulster’ course and as a stand-alone course. Topics covered will include heritage legislation and heritage bodies in Ireland, excavation, artefacts, monument types, the science of archaeology, maps, industrial archaeology, vernacular buildings and maritime archaeology. The course tutor, Ruairí Ó Baoill, works in the Centre for Community Archaeology, Archaeology and Paleoecology in the School of Natural and Built Environment at Queen’s University Belfast. He has worked on archaeological excavations across Ireland for 40 years.
