Builders of East Belfast: A Walking Tour
[OLE1736]

Gerry Cleary, PhD

Autumn 2024

One-day walking tour on Saturday 19 October, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

East Belfast grew along the spine of the Newtownards Road in the 19th Century with its western end dominated by the Shipyard and its associated industries.  This gave way to the residential Bloomfield

area typified by Cyprus Avenue.  Who were the builders?  We include architects, construction companies and developers.  We will walk from the Newtownards Road to the entrance to Stormont and make use of public transport where relevant.  There will be a lunch opportunity (not included in the fee) The walk is approximately 5-6 miles and involves different types of streets and paths (e.g. parts of the Comber Greenway) so stout foot wear is advisable.

Fee £36.00 (no concession)

Meet at the City Centre bus route terminus for Newtownards Road buses.

Concession: The concession rate is available for those who are in receipt of State Benefits (including pension), or are full-time students, part or full-time Queen’s students or are members of University staff holding a valid staff card:
