This course will explore the varied landscape of contemporary American fiction. The novels featured are an opportunity to read important American writers and study the way in which they relate to contemporary American society, moral dilemmas and the literary tradition. Novels include: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, James by Percival Everett, Winter’s Bone by Daniel Woodrell, The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich and No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy’
