The theory of evolution has continued to develop from the Neo-Darwinian synthesis of the mid-twentieth century by incorporating new scientific discoveries. We will discuss how twenty-first century evolutionary theory continues to challenge and excite through its ability to assimilate new understandings of genetics, development and plasticity, thereby yielding even greater understanding of the diversity of life.
