Key Themes in Social Psychology
[OLE2997]

Kenneth Johnston, BSc, MSc

5 weekly sessions on Thursdays 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm, starting 2 May

Social Psychology is the study of how other people affect how we think, feel and act. We will consider how we perceive and interpret others, how behaviour is affected by group membership, why we comply to social norms, why we obey authority and why certain groups are the victims of stereotyping and prejudice. Further, we will look at the psychology of persuasion. Why do people buy things they don’t really need and what techniques do salesmen and advertisers use to achieve this?
