Boost Your Reading Brain
[OLE3284]

David Tierney, BA, MA

Autumn 2024

One-day workshop on Saturday 5 October, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm

According to Francis Bacon, the 17th Century English philosopher, in his essay of studies (1625) ‘Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed and some few to be chewed and digested’.  In this course we examine your reading style and through an innovative set of exercises look at ways that you can read more efficiently and effectively.  Understanding the effects of reading on the brain can not only help us retain information easier but also increase our reading enjoyment.  It will also give you some practical advice on how you decide, as Bacon outlined, those books worthy of a quick read, those to be read thoroughly and those to be read slowly and thoughtfully.

This class will take place on QUB campus
