A Journey through Irish Myths
[OLE3277]

Janice Witherspoon, MA, PGCE

New Year 2024

10 weekly sessions on Wednesdays 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm, starting 17 January

Join storyteller Janice Witherspoon to explore some of the old myths and legends of this land. The course will look at stories from the main cycles of Irish mythology, including tales of the Tuatha de Danann, the exploits of Fionn McCumhal and his warriors from the Ossianic cycle and the hero Cuchulainn from the Ulster cycle. Students will both hear and read the tales discovering what they tell us about the society of the time. For those who would like to try their hand at telling in the oral tradition some tips and techniques will be taught but those who prefer to just listen are welcome too. We will also discuss the relevance of keeping these stories alive in the 21st century.
